One lure that I like to throw in smaller bodies of water like a pond when the visibility is high and there isn’t too much grass around is a smaller jerkbait. Like a standard jerkbait, this lure has a unique action where it will dart around when you move it, but then just sort of sit there when you pause which can be very effective when the bite is tough. I usually just go with a bluegill profile for this lure since I typically throw it when I’m fishing at the pond I like to go to, but you could certainly use it in larger bodies of water as well and if you do it might be worth looking into some other colors that would imitate a shad.
Currently my favorite lure for this technique is the Lucky Craft Pointer Minnow 78mm, and I really like the ghost baby bluegill color. Like the other treble hook lures that I throw I’ll typically swap out the hooks with single inline hooks and these ship with treble hooks when you buy them. In terms of equipment I’ll usually throw this one on a spinning rod since it weighs 3/8oz, but you could also use a casting rod if you wanted to.
