A large underspin can be a great lure to go with when you want to imitate a larger shad profile and cover a lot of water in a hurry. In this case, when I say a ‘large underspin’ I’m referring to a paddle tail swimbait on a 5/0 weedless underspin, and I prefer a weedless option for this technique since it can help when there is grass or cover around.
These lures can perform all year, and they can be a good alternative to an umbrella rig when there is some cover or grass around or you just want to go with a smaller profile. My preferred lure for this technique is a Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper, and for colors I like lab rat, sexy shad, and white trash. For the hook I prefer a 5/0 Owner Flashy Swimmer, and I will use the silver blade in clearer water or the gold blade if the visibility is lower. This lure is very similar to a spinnerbait, but the blade is below the lure and it can be a better option if you are fishing around grass.
