Extra Large Weedless Swimbait

Just to clarify when I say an extra large weedless swimbait I’m referring a 6″ swimbait that is texas rigged on a swimbait hook. In this case I currently recommend the Bass Mafia Daingerous (pictured above) since it has a consistent action on a variety of retrieve speeds, and I usually just go with a shad pattern.

A lot of people prefer to throw larger swimbaits in the spring when the bass are feeding up for the spawn, but I’ve found that you can have success on this lure just about any time of the year. In terms of where to throw it you can use it in open water, but it’s also worth trying to target shade pockets or areas around docks with it and that’s where the weedless version tends to do a little better.

You probably aren’t going to catch as many bass with this type of a lure, but if you do get a bite it’s usually going to be a bigger fish and there’s a good chance it might be one of the biggest ones you catch all year. You can also use this to draw fish out and even if they don’t bite it you can still get an idea of where they are and then follow it up with a smaller lure. They also make bigger swimbaits, but this is usually about as big as I like to go since it can get harder to get a bite as you continue to go up in size.
