Bass Puzzle Grass Piece

The Bass Puzzle Grass Piece has been getting a fair amount of attention lately so I figured I’d pick a couple up and try it out. As it turns out I’m very glad I did as this thing is pretty awesome. It comes in a few different sizes however the half ounce size seems to be the one that’s currently in stock so I ended up getting a chartreuse and white one along with a white one. I ended up pairing it up with a Crush City Freeloader since it seemed like a good fit and I already had some laying around anyway.

I finally got to try it out this last week and here’s a picture of the first fish I caught on it, which ended up being around 3lbs:

At the time I was targeting a shade line next to a bank and a couple of docks and the water was a bit dirty so I opted for the chartreuse and white color. The first thing I will say about this lure is the vibration is pretty subtle and not as intense as what you would get with a typical bladed jig. The other thing about it that really stood out to me was the action of the lure. I noticed it has a very consistent rock back and forth almost like the action a lot of anglers try to achieve when they are using forward facing sonar and shaking a minnow, but in this case it was very easy to get this action out of the lure and it performed very consistently. Aside from that the shape is similar to what you would get with a typical spinnerbait so it also comes through wood and flooded brush really well which happened to be a perfect fit for where I was at that day.

I haven’t added this lure to the lure finder (yet) but will probably continue to use it and eventually add it if availability doesn’t become an issue. It’s not going to replace a bladed jig or a spinnerbait for me, but I can definitely see times where I would reach for one over a bladed jig or a spinnerbait. The lure is also not inexpensive, but I’d argue it’s still worth picking it up and have no problem paying a little more for a lure if I think the value is there. They also make it in a few other colors and sizes and I might try different variations out at some point, but for now I can say that I definitely like the half ounce size with a freeloader and really like the white and chartreuse and white colors. In terms of gear I have been throwing it on the same rod I use to throw a similar size spinnerbait and that has been working out great for me.
