Swimbait

While it isn’t the most extravagant lure in all of bass fishing a soft plastic swimbait is still an effective way to catch fish. In this case even though there are a lot of different brands and sizes available, when I say soft plastic swimbait I’m specifically referring to a 4.4″ swimbait on a weedless swimbait hook. The reason I like this size is it fits perfectly on a 4/0 1/16oz Gamakatsu Weighted Superline Spring Lock hook, and you can use the same hook and setup with a medium fluke which means you can throw two very effective lures without even needing to tie a different hook on. I typically will use this lure if I think the bass might be targeting baitfish that are around this size, or if I’m not sure where they are and want to cover a lot of water quickly. Once you find them you can keep using it, or switch over to the fluke if you want to slow down a bit.

Another great thing about this lure is it’s a weedless presentation and comes through grass pretty well. It will pick up some grass if you throw it into really heavy stuff, but overall it does better than something like an underspin or a spinnerbait since there’s less stuff to get hung up in the grass. While they do make these in a lot of different colors, I usually just go with shad imitating colors and specifically I like a color like the one above if the water is clearer or something that will stand out a bit more if the water is a little dirtier. While the Keitech Swim Impact Fat is probably the most popular lure out there in this category, I prefer the 6th Sense Divine Swimbait or the Rapala Crush City Mayor and both of these lure have done well for me personally.
