A small fluke is one of the most effective bass lures that I throw right now. There have been days when it seems like they won’t bite anything else but they still seem to want to hit this thing. The lure in the picture is an OSP DoLive Stick, and this particular one is used and had already caught me two bass when this picture was taken. There are a few other small flukes out there (and for the record when I say ‘small fluke’ I’m referring to a 4″ soft plastic jerkbait), but this one has performed better than anything else I found. In fact I threw this particular one on a hot day in August when the skies were bright blue and it had just rained so the water was pretty dirty. Nothing else was working so I decided to put this one and ended up avoiding a skunk for the day.
In terms of when to use it, you can use one any time of the year and I typically throw a bluegill colored one when I think the bass are feeding on bluegill. I prefer to use the same 3/0 swimbait hook that I use for other finesse lures, and when I’m throwing this one I typically work it like I would work a regular soft plastic jerkbait, but with smaller, more subtle twitches. There are several other ways you could fish this lure but that’s what I typically do when I’m using it. The OSP DoLive Stick has an action similar to a senko, and it’s also about as fragile as a senko so you will go through them pretty quickly. They also have a strong scent to them and I feel like that can help if the visibility is lower. Overall this is a great lure and event though they are a bit expensive I personally think they are worth it and would suggest picking up a bag or two if you haven’t tried them before.
