Large Fluke

an image of a 6" zoom super fluke

A large fluke is just like a standard one but it has a slightly larger profile. A lot of different companies make a soft plastic jerkbait these days, but if l’m going to throw a larger one I prefer to use a 6″ Zoom Super Fluke. As with a regular size fluke I typically like to throw it texas rigged on a swimbait hook with a small weight on the bottom, and the same setup can be used to throw a larger paddle tail swimbait. The extra weight helps with casting, and the screw lock also prevents the lure from sliding down the hook when it gets bit.

Flukes can be thrown just about any time of the year, but a lot of people prefer to use them in the spring and the fall. A texas rigged fluke also does well around grass (and cover in general) and they can also work well if you are targeting bass around docks. I personally prefer to use a casting rod for large flukes, but you can also find spinning rods that would work with this lure. Larger flukes can do well if the fish are feeding on larger shad, or if you are in a bigger body of water and want a little more drawing power. Zoom only started making this lure recently so it seems like they only offer it in their best colors and honestly any of them would probably work…a couple of my personal favorites are albino or white pearl.
